Holy Mountain Receive BPI/UKTI Helping Hand

Holy Mountain and Chemikal Underground are delighted to be receiving marketing support from the BPI and UKTI‘s excellent ‘Music Export Growth Scheme‘. At a time when label’s like Chemikal Underground inevitably struggle to invest in overseas marketing, the MEGS will be helping us channel resources into our strongest European territory, Germany, in support of ‘Ancient Astronauts‘. Working with our long-time German partners Rough Trade, we’ll be pushing Holy Mountain’s thunderous new album into every German nook and cranny we can find.

Ancient Astronauts‘ will be released on April 7th in the UK and Europe, but in the meantime our German, Dutch and English friends can catch their far from retiring live show very soon: check the dates on the right hand side of the page for details.

Available on CD, LP & digital download, the deluxe vinyl package comes in the form of that mouthwatering rock staple, the gatefold sleeve. It’ll also be in 180gsm vinyl and includes, as always the CD, ensuring your portable digital kicks are satisfied. It’s limited mind, so you’ll have to be quick to get your hands on this one…

As far as the Music Export Growth Scheme is concerned, there’s another funding round taking place in Spring 2014. It takes a very progressive approach towards offering practical, financial assistance to independent labels selling overseas and we’d encourage any of our fellow labels out there to consider applying if you’ve got campaigns coming in the second half of this year. A great initiative that deserves to be championed and promoted.

Holy Mountain ‘Ancient Astronauts’

Praise be: Chemikal Underground’s prized rock possessions Holy Mountain offer up their full length debut for your consideration on April 7th.  The follow-up to their 2012 mini-album ‘Earth Measures’, ‘Ancient Astronauts’ is a thundering tour-de-force of monumental guitar, drums and bass and is – let us assure you – the rock album of the year.

A breathless, delirious blast from start to finish, ‘Ancient Astronauts’ will be available from the 7th of April on LP, CD & digital download. The LP will be on limited, 180gsm vinyl with the CD included.  UK & EU dates will be announced shortly.

By way of a charitable whistle whetter, here’s a blast of opening track LV-42666.

RM Hubbert Mini Euro Tour

They say “good things comes to those who wait”. In this case it doesn’t apply as Hubby is about to embark on a mini European tour which kicks off on the 1st of December in Durham, England. The ten date tour takes in England, Holland, Germany and comes to an end in Paris, France on the 11th of December. Details of the venues and cities he will be visiting are over to your right.

The tour brings to a close what can easily be described as a tremendous 2013 for Hubby. Picking up the ‘Scottish Album Of The Year Award’ in June and the subsequent release of his third album ‘Breaks & Bone’.

Adrian Crowley & James Yorkston: My Yoke Is Heavy

We’re delighted to announce that we’ll be releasing ‘My Yoke Is Heavy: The Songs of Daniel Johnston’ featuring James Yorkston and Adrian Crowley.  A homage to the cult American song-writer, the album finds James and Adrian interpreting a selection of Johnston’s beguiling catalogue and, with his material sitting so snugly between merriment and melancholy, who better to have a run at it than our very own Galway balladeer and Fife’s inestimably lyrical troubadour: Mssrs Crowley & Yorkston?

‘My Yoke Is Heavy’ will be limited to 500 vinyl and 500 CDs so get your finger out and snap a copy up while you’ve got the chance.

Holy Mountain – ‘Luftwizard’ 7″

Holy Mountain return with a brand new 7″ single ‘Luftwizard’.  The title track’s taken from their (currently nameless) second studio album which is due for release in early 2014. The b-side?  Well that’s an almighty version of Black Sabbath’s classic ‘War Pigs’, a stalwart of their live set. You can pick up the single from their Glasgow launch show onwards and don’t be slow because it’s limited to 500 copies. Tour dates are below with main support coming from Rungs.

The single will be available on our online shop and via discerning record emporia in the not too distant future.

17th Oct – Liverpool – Lomax
18th Oct – Glasgow – Cathouse (7″ launch) tickets
19th Oct – Leeds – Brudenell Social Club
20th Oct – Aberdeen – The Tunnels

Conquering Animal Sound UK & European tour

If you didn’t manage to catch them on their European tour earlier this year then hopefully they will be playing a venue near you on this tour. In fact, even if they are not playing a venue near you then we would encourage you to make the effort to travel to a gig. You won’t be disappointed.

RM Hubbert: ‘Breaks & Bone’ 27.09.13

RM Hubbert returns with a new album, radiating the effulgent glow of success after ‘Thirteen Lost & Found’ dropped jaws and raised the roof by (quite justifiably) snaffling this year’s SAY Award. If the technical artistry and emotional warmth which infused that record seemed like a career high, then hold that thought and steal yourself for ‘Breaks & Bone’…

An entirely solo effort this time round, ‘Breaks & Bone’ is notable for the inclusion of Hubby’s vocals on each consecutive song. It’s an album of hair-raising beauty and no little emotional clout in fact, we might as well be the first ones to lavish praise on an album that, in our opinion, is up there with the very best Chemikal Underground has ever released.

The fact that this album is CHEM200 just makes it all the more fitting: a landmark release in every conceivable sense.

RM Hubbert Scoops SAY Award

Well, it was a hell of a night.  We were all absolutely thrilled when it was announced Hubby had scooped the Scottish Album of the Year Award, pocketing the whopping £20,000 prize fund and beating off competition from the likes of Admiral Fallow, Django Django, Lau, Karine Polwart and fellow labelmate Human Don’t Be Angry (Malcolm Middleton).

Thirteen Lost & Found is an album of grace and artistry, rich in collaboration and suffused with musicianship of the highest order from all concerned.  More than anything though, it’s the creation of a gifted and humble gentleman who could not be more worthy of every accolade that comes his way.

Hubby, sir, we salute you.
