On Floating Bodies out now!

On Floating Bodies is out now and is available to order through our online shop here. The album is out on CD, vinyl LP & digital download. The vinyl LP is limited to 500 copies, which includes a CD of the album and a fold out artwork print.

We could go on forever about why this is such an amazing follow up to their 2011 debut Kammerspiel but you might accuse of us of being biased!  With that in mind here are great some reviews where other people praise them to the nines for us…

Adrian Crowley European Tour

Continuing to ride the wave of adulation generated by the release of his sixth album ‘I See Three Birds Flying’ last September, Adrian will be embarking on a European tour this February. Prior to his continental jaunt proper though, will be a clutch of dates around Holland and Germany as he visits (like his Holy Mountain labelmates) the Eurosonic Festival.  With a couple of shows either side of his Grand Theatre performance in Groningen before he sets off around Europe in February and March, 2013 looks set to be the year Adrian offers up his heartbreaking songbook to a much wider audience.

For more information on Adrian, links to his website, twitter etc. just visit his artist page here.

Loch Lomond ‘Dresses’: Feb Tour

Ritchie Young and co. will be returning to the UK and Europe early in February for a pretty extensive tour (the dates of which you can find on our ‘LIVE‘ page unsurprisingly).  The tour itself will be in promotion of their brand new album ‘Dresses’: a record of quite spectacular beauty.  Fans of ‘Little Me Will Start A Storm‘ will already be familiar with the band’s flair for harmony and a dark, melancholic melodicism; with ‘Dresses’ the tone is darker still, more ambitious in its scope and represents a significant new level for the band.

Make sure you get along to one or more of their shows this year as we pretty much rank them as being up there amongst the best live bands we’ve ever worked with.  Thanks must go to Toutpartout for their invaluable assistance in making this tour possible.

Rick Redbeard’s “No Selfish Heart” – 28th Jan

In the land of the long-nurtured solo album, ‘No Selfish Heart’ has regal characteristics.  With material on there that dates as far back as 2004, Rick Redbeard’s debut has had a more leisurely gestation period than most.  “Who the hell is Rick Redbeard” you say?  Well, he’s only that guy out of The Phantom Band: the singer guy.

Our first album of 2013 and the proud owner of the CHEM190 catalogue number, ‘No Selfish Heart’ is a thing of stark, poignant beauty.  Already recognised as such by the achingly well-informed folks at MOJO (4/5 don’t you know), for more information just hop on over to Rick’s artist page by clicking here or pre-order it here.

“Not me, Jose!” we declared emphatically, bundling up the twenty tracks as soon as the campaign drew to a close so we could stick it here for all and sundry to marvel at our, erm…marvellousness.

Adrian Crowley – I See Three Birds Flying

Chemikal Underground is proud and delighted to announce the arrival of Adrian Crowley’s sixth studio album ‘I See Three Birds Flying’. Coming three years after Crowley’s Choice Music Prize scooping Season of the Sparks, there’s an understated glow of assuredness surrounding this new material, the thrill of high expectations being met and then comprehensively exceeded.

The first single to be taken from the album will be ‘The Saddest Song’: a bold introduction to the album which perfectly encapsulates the lyrical flair and musical ambition that surely make this collection a high watermark in literate, evocative songwriting.

There will be two very special concerts to mark the launch of ‘I See Three Birds Flying’ at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin on 14th & 15th of September.  The shows are on the Peacock Stage and tickets will go on sale on Monday 6th of August.

‘I See Three Birds Flying’ is released on the 14th of September.

Welcome Conquering Animal Sound!

Chemikal Underground are thrilled to announce that Conquering Animal Sound have joined the Chemikal fold and will be releasing their follow-up to the SAY Award shortlisted ‘Kammerspiel’ at the beginning of next year.

We’ve kept this creative union on the ‘down low’ since February of this year actually, opting instead to let James and Anneke get into Chem19 in peace and quiet to finish off their new album with Paul (Savage).  And finish it they have, and in grand style too: it’s an assured, ambitious and stylish progression from what was already a brilliant debut and it’s going to be called ‘On Floating Bodies’, so there.

There’ll be more information on the new album as we move closer to the New Year but remember in the meantime that you can still pick up ‘Kammerspiel’ from most good record shops or via Richard Knox’s excellent, Leeds-based Gizeh Records.

“We’re super chuffed to be working with Chemikal Underground, Scotland’s finest record label.  The opportunity they gave us to mix the new album with Paul at Chem19 has made it sound all the better.  Thanks to Richard at Gizeh for all his great work, we are sad to be moving on from his label, but the £2m signing on fee with Chemikal, not to mention the private jets, live-in villa and CAS-branded Reebok Hexalites was just too good to turn down.”  ANNEKE & JAMES (CONQUERING ANIMAL SOUND)

“We consider it a real coup for Chemikal Underground to be working with Anneke and James.  ‘Kammerspiel’ was a tremendous, intelligent album that pretty much encapsulated everything that we hold to be exciting and inventive about Scottish music at the moment.  It’s great to welcome them to the ‘family’ and while we’re sure they’ll play nice with the others, we’ll probably have to keep an eye on James.”  STEWART HENDERSON (CHEMIKAL UNDERGROUND)

Emma Pollock & RM Hubbert : Sept Tour

Emma Pollock and Hubby have announced plans to go out on the road together this September.  Hubby, still in the midst of a neverending flurry of live dates in support of his magical second album Thirteen Lost & Found, will accompany Chemikal’s founding…er, mother(??) Emma Pollock for what will be a relatively rare UK-wide outing for the ex-Delgado.

Emma remains as prolific as ever with her wonderful collaboration projects the Fruit Tree Foundation and The Burns Unit, not to mention her show-stopping contribution to Hubby’s album on ‘Half Light’.  Some new solo material from Emma will be getting an airing on the tour, as she gears up to enter the studio and record the follow up to 2010’s ‘The Law of Large Numbers’.  Incidentally, when we were putting the Soundcloud player together for this news story we discovered that Hubby’s debut album ‘First & Last’ was re-issued on Chemikal Underground on exactly the same day as we released Emma’s album: how mildly coincidental is that?!?

There will be an ultra-limited, exclusive 6-track EP manufactured for this tour featuring some new and previosuly tracks from both Hubby and Emma.  Ticket links for the dates will be updated as they come in and in the meantime, have a listen to the player below and understand why these dates really ought not to be missed…
